How Jarum Seri began
Jarum Seri opened quietly on Jalan SS2 in Petaling Jaya in 2011, when our founder Razif Ismail set aside a career in industrial engineering to do work he found more personally satisfying. He had been repairing watches for friends and family for several years — mostly older automatics passed down through relatives — and the workshop grew naturally from that.
The name Jarum Seri means something close to "the bright needle" in Malay — a reference to the fine hands of a watch face, which Razif always found a quietly pleasing image. The workshop has stayed small by choice. We take on the number of pieces we can attend to with care, not the number that would fill a calendar.
Over the years, our work has broadened from simple regulation jobs to full movement services, crown and pusher repairs, and careful cosmetic refits. But the approach has not changed: we look at each watch on its own terms, discuss what we find with the owner, and proceed only when everyone is comfortable.

Why we do this work
Watches accumulate meaning in a way that most objects do not. A piece worn through a graduation, inherited from a grandparent, or simply carried every day for twenty years has a presence that is worth preserving. We feel that acutely, and it shapes everything about how we work.
Our mission is straightforward: to return watches to their owners in better condition than they arrived, with a clear account of what was done and why. We do not add services that a watch does not need, and we do not rush work that benefits from patience.

How we hold ourselves accountable
Written Assessment First
Every watch is assessed and a written condition report prepared before any repair work begins. No work is carried out without your explicit agreement on scope and cost.
Timing Machine Testing
All regulated movements are tested on a calibrated timing machine across multiple positions to verify accuracy before the watch is returned.
Appropriate Lubricants
We use lubricants specified for each movement type and pivot point. Off-the-shelf oils are never used on fine movements; correct lubrication is central to long-term function.
Secure Storage
Every watch left with us is logged in with a receipt and stored in a locked, supervised workshop. We do not leave pieces unattended in transit areas.
Minimal Intervention Approach
We only suggest and carry out what a watch genuinely needs. We do not add services to pad a job, and we discuss any unexpected findings with you before proceeding.

Contact details and watch information provided to us are used only to manage your repair and are not shared with third parties for any commercial purpose.

Mechanical horology in the Klang Valley
Mechanical and automatic watches require periodic care — not because something has gone wrong, but because lubricants age and fine tolerances benefit from attention. A movement that has not been serviced for eight or ten years may still run, but it is likely running on dry pivots and thickened oils. The long-term cost of neglect is usually higher than that of a timely service.
Jarum Seri works with a wide range of movements — from everyday automatics to older mechanical pieces — and we are comfortable discussing a watch's condition frankly with its owner. If a watch is not worth the cost of repair relative to its value, we will say so. If a piece is worth attending to, we will explain what the work involves and what you can reasonably expect afterwards.
Watch repair in Petaling Jaya and the wider Klang Valley is sometimes treated as a quick-turnaround trade. Our approach differs in that we take time to do work properly, communicate clearly, and return each piece with a sense of its history intact.
